Hundreds of kids flocked to the Mattocks skatepark in Varsity on Saturday 25th of June for the first Element Make It Count event of five for Australia and New Zealand 2016. Make It Count is an intentional skate contest designed to seek out new talent and encourage the development of skateboarding.
The Gold Coast competition attracted some of the best skateboarding talent from Byron Bay to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Newly announced Element Pro Dennis Durrant was there with Element team rider Mitch Morrison who supported Trent Bonham owner of the Precinct skate shop to judge the event.
The Opens winner from each local competition wins a ticket to the regional finals in Melbourne on August 20th. Then the Australian/New Zealand overall winner earns a trip to Barcelona for the global finals in September and could potentially win an Element sponsorship. Definitely a decent prize!
Element encouraged all contestants to donate one can of food to enter the Make It Count competition. We were stoked to receive a full box of can food to be donated to local charity Rosie's who supports the Gold Coast homeless.
With a close call, local man Chase Jaeger took out the Opens division! Get on that plane mate you're heading the regional finals.
